  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Zest of 1 large orange Use fresh zest for best flavor.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional) Add for extra chocolate flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Stir the granulated sugar into the melted butter until well combined.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Follow with the vanilla extract and stir until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Fold in the orange zest and chocolate chips (if using).
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares.
