Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and salt. Whisk until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add cocoa powder and vanilla extract, whisking until well incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavor.
Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually 20-25 minutes.
In the last 5 minutes of churning, add the optional chopped chocolate.
Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and smooth the surface. Freeze for at least several hours or overnight until firm.
