Ingredients
  

Shrimp Preparation

  • 1 pound medium-sized shrimp, peeled and deveined Fresh shrimp preferred for best results

Coating Mixture

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder

Flavor Enhancers

  • 2-3 pieces green onions, chopped
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 pieces Thai red chili peppers, sliced Adjust based on spice preference

Preparation

  • Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, black pepper, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and five-spice powder. Stir until well blended.
  • Dredge each shrimp in the cornstarch mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the shrimp in batches. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • Remove the shrimp using a slotted spoon and set them on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • In the same skillet, add more oil if needed, then toss in the minced garlic, sliced chili, and chopped green onions. Sauté for about 30 seconds.
  • Add the cooked shrimp back into the skillet and gently toss to combine.
  • Transfer the shrimp to a serving platter and garnish with fresh cilantro.
