Ingredients
  

Chicken Preparation

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • Oil for frying

Orange Sauce

  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed or store-bought) Fresh juice preferred for best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

Garnishes

  • Green onions, sliced For garnish.
  • Sesame seeds For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Place the chicken pieces in a bowl and crack the egg over them. Mix to coat the chicken evenly.
  • In another bowl, place the cornstarch and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Dredge the chicken pieces in the cornstarch, ensuring they are fully covered.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden and crispy (about 5-6 minutes). Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine the orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Bring to a gentle boil.
  • Stir in the cornstarch-water mixture and continue to stir until the sauce thickens (1-2 minutes). Remove from heat.
  • Add the crispy chicken to the saucepan with the sauce, tossing to coat evenly.

Serving

  • Serve the orange chicken hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For an appealing presentation, serve with fluffy white rice or stir-fried vegetables. Adjust sweetness of the sauce by modifying the sugar level. For extra spice, add red pepper flakes.
