Instructions

Preparation

  • Tenderize the beef round steaks using a meat mallet until they are about ½ inch thick.
  • Set up a breading station: in one bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
  • Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, dip into the egg mixture, then return to the flour for a second coating.

Cooking

  • Heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Carefully place the breaded steaks into the hot oil, frying each side for about 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove the steaks from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  • For added flavor, make a gravy in the same skillet using leftover oil and flour dredge.

Serving

  • Place the warm steak on a plate and drizzle with homemade gravy. Serve with classic side dishes like creamy mashed potatoes or coleslaw.

Notes

For best results, marinate the beef in buttermilk for a few hours. Maintain oil temperature around 350°F to achieve a crispy texture. Allow cooked steaks to rest on paper towels before serving.
