Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 4 cups diced potatoes Any type of potato works well.
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Cheddar or any cheese of your choice)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional Toppings

  • green onions Sliced, for garnish.
  • croutons For added texture.

Preparation

  • In a large pot, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until soft and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the diced ham to the pot and stir for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the diced potatoes, mixing well.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil over high heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and let simmer until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and melted cheese, cooking on low until desired thickness, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Ladle into bowls and garnish with green onions or croutons if desired.
