Cookie Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature butter for best results.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature eggs.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Add-Ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use your favorite chocolate chips.
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chopped caramel candies Chopped candies work well as a substitute.
  • to taste sea salt for sprinkling Adds flavor contrast.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix gently until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and caramel bits.
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper and drop mounds of cookie dough onto them, leaving space for spreading.
  • Sprinkle a small pinch of sea salt on each mound.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  • Cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes
