Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for better flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Mix-Ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional.
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped Optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another large bowl, whisk the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  • Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  • If desired, fold in the chocolate chips or nuts into the dough.

Baking

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges look set but the centers remain soft.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To keep cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them individually wrapped.
