Ingredients

For the dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Browned for flavor
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or nuts Optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by browning the butter. Place the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently until the butter melts, then continues to cook and bubble. Once it turns a golden brown color and gives off a nutty aroma, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, combine the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Pour the browned butter into the bowl, mixing well to combine.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the sugar and butter mixture. Stir until everything is fully incorporated and smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until no flour streaks remain. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips or nuts.
  • Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving a few inches between each cookie.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers remain soft.
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To elevate your serving experience, arrange cookies on a platter or stack them in a jar. They can be served with cold milk, coffee, or vanilla ice cream. Sprinkling sea salt on top enhances the sweet-salty flavor contrast.
