Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13x9-inch baking pan and line with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and salt.
Stir in the chopped walnuts.
In another bowl, mix together applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
Transfer the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15-20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add confectioners' sugar and milk, mixing until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
Once the cake is completely cool, frost the top generously with icing and garnish with walnuts if desired.
