Cupcake Base

  • 1 can refrigerated cinnamon roll dough (8 count) For the crust
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For cooking apples and crumble topping

Apple Filling

  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced into 1/4-inch cubes Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon For flavor
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt To balance sweetness
  • 1/2 lemon Juice from half a lemon Adds freshness

Crumble Topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter Chilled for topping
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts Your choice

Toppings

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Lightly spray a regular-size muffin pan with cooking spray.

Shape the Dough

  • Open the can of cinnamon roll dough and separate into 8 rolls. Flatten each roll into a round shape, about 4 inches wide, and place them into the prepared muffin cups.

Cook the Apples

  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the diced apples and cook for about 5 minutes until starting to soften.
  • Mix in the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes until tender, then add the lemon juice.

Prepare the Crumble Topping

  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and chopped nuts. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles a crumbly texture.

Assemble the Cupcakes

  • Scoop the apple filling into each cupcake cup lined with cinnamon roll dough and top with the crumble mixture.

Bake

  • Bake the cupcakes for 10 to 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack.

Notes
