  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying Use enough to submerge the fritters.

Apples

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced Firmer varieties like Granny Smith recommended.

Preparation

  • Start by preparing your apples by peeling and dicing them into small pieces. Set them aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the diced apples, ensuring they are well distributed throughout the batter.

Cooking

  • In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat about two inches of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Once slightly cooled, dust the fritters with powdered sugar before serving.
