  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Spoon and level for accuracy
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened, not cold
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional) For added flavor
  • to taste sprinkles for decoration (optional) Customize as desired

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If using almond extract, fold it in at this stage.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  • If desired, gently press down on each cookie ball and sprinkle with decorative sprinkles.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden but the centers remain soft. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To store, let cookies cool completely before placing in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for about one week or frozen for up to three months.
