Pastry Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed) Be sure it's thawed properly
  • 1 cup almond paste
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For the filling
  • 1 large egg (beaten for egg wash) For brushing on pastries
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds For topping
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting) For decoration before serving

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Lightly dust a work surface with flour and roll out the thawed puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thickness.
  • Cut the pastry into squares, each measuring approximately 4 inches by 4 inches.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the almond paste and powdered sugar to form a smooth mixture.
  • Place a spoonful of the almond paste mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  • Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to create a pocket and seal the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  • Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let the pastries cool slightly on a wire rack and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes
