Onion Ring Coating

  • 2 large large onions Use sweet onions like Vidalia for a milder taste.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 2 large eggs Whisked before use.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Use panko or regular breadcrumbs for added crunch.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • As needed Cooking spray To prevent sticking in air fryer.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about a half-inch wide. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.
  • In a three-bowl setup, place flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second, and combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in the third.

Coating

  • Coat each onion ring in flour, shaking off excess.
  • Dip the floured onion ring in the beaten eggs, letting extra drip off.
  • Press the onion ring into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it sticks well.

Cooking

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer without overcrowding.
  • Cook the onion rings for about 12-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Monitor cooking, as air fryer models may vary.
  • Once golden and crispy, remove them from the basket and serve hot.
