  • 2 large russet potatoes Starchy potatoes work best for crispiness.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Helps to crisp the hash browns.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Enhances the savory taste.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Adds color and mild smokiness.
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chopped herbs like parsley or chives For garnish or flavor enhancement.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Peel the russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or food processor.
  • Place the grated potatoes in a large bowl filled with water and allow to soak for about 15 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • Drain and rinse the potatoes under cold water, then squeeze out as much water as possible using a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth.
  • Transfer the dried, grated potatoes to a clean bowl and mix in olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until evenly coated.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  • Lightly coat the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray and spread the seasoned potatoes evenly in a thin layer.

Cooking

  • Cook the hash browns for about 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Once cooked, remove the hash browns from the air fryer and let them rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, choose starchy potatoes, thoroughly dry the potatoes after soaking, and avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Leftovers can be transformed into patties and reheated for another meal.
