  • 1 cup saltine crackers Can substitute with graham crackers.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Ensure it's unsalted for controlling saltiness.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional, can use pecans or walnuts.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • In a saucepan, melt unsalted butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until it comes to a gentle boil.
  • Immediately pour the mixture over the saltine crackers, making sure each cracker is coated.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until bubbly but not burnt.
  • Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top while hot.
  • Let sit for a few minutes to allow chocolate to melt, then spread chocolate evenly using a spatula.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts on top if desired.

Cooling and Serving

  • Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely, then break into pieces.
  • Serve on a festive platter or package in cellophane bags for gifts.

Notes

For storage, place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Can be frozen for up to three months. Consider adding crushed peppermint for a festive touch or drizzling with white chocolate for added richness.
